Patricia McCormick’s Novel, Sold

I found the book, Sold by Patrick McCormick, several years ago.  I’m not sure how I found it, but it caught my attention immediately.  Written in a series of poems, Lakshmi tells her story of being sold into slavery.  She hails from a village in Nepal and thinks she is going to the city for a job that will financially support her family. The book Sold is a fictional account, but the story rings true for many young women.

Sold was a National Book Award Finalist.  It is a quick read, as it is written in poetic vignettes.  But I think it’s story is worth reading as it helps us to understand what a young woman might feel when unknowingly and unwillingly sold into prostitution.
